Growth Mindset: The New Mantra for Success

In general parlance, a mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notions held by a person, it can reflect a person’s view or philosophy of life.  A mindset may be so firmly established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people to adopt or accept prior behaviours, choices, or tools

“In the fixed mindset, everything is about the outcome. If you fail—or if you’re not the best—it’s all been wasted. The growth mindset allows people to value what they’re doing regardless of the outcome. They’re tackling problems, charting new courses, working on important issues. “― Carol S. Dweck, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

When you have a Fixed Mindset, a person’s mind is pre-determined and so they are not open & are resistant to change. Whereas a person with Growth Mindset, understands that talents & abilities can be developed through effort & good teaching and persistence. Typically growth means progress and we generally speak of growth in terms of physical attributes, financial wealth, climbing the social ladder, educational qualifications etc, sometimes we even talk about intellectual growth…but do we have a Growth mindset?

Growth and Change are two words which seem to be hand in glove, but really not so. Growth means Change, and change is one of the most difficult things for people to face. One reason why people don’t like change is because they are comfortable with where they are in life, they get used to their friends, job and place where they live. Change is inevitable, but not all changes lead to growth…but when we are not willing to change, we get stuck in life, instead of growing & moving forward.

It’s never too late to change; did you know that it’s possible to grow new brain cells? The human brain is one of the most amazing creations of God. It contains hundreds of billions of cells interlinked through trillions of connections. The brain boggles the mind. It has the gift of “neural plasticity”- the attribute with which your brain changes at cellular level as you learn. And remember your brain has the ability to change throughout life.

Did you know that belief in improvement actually helps you to improve and become resilientAre you ready to grow?

To improve& grow, learning is the key. Never stop learning! Set a new goal for every goal you accomplish. That is the secret of a Growth Mindset. Learning takes time, think of learning as “brain training” and reflect on your learning every day. It’s important to know your learning style and use the right learning strategies.  Choose learning well, over learning fast, and focus on the process instead of the end result

Did you know you can cultivate a sense of purpose through “Visualization”?

Visualization is simply seeing yourself the way you want to be. It is creating a picture in your mind of accomplishing your goals, overcoming your obstacles and fulfilling your God given destiny. Our imagination is extremely powerful. As we keep on dwelling on the picture in our mind, it gets into our sub conscious mind. Once something is there in our sub conscious it is like gravity, it pulls us towards it. So ensure you have a beautiful & positive visualization, which will propel you towards growth.

“You’re in charge of your mind. You can help it grow by using it in the right way” Dr. Carol Dweck
