State-Level Dairy Workshop Highlights: The Vital Role of Livestock Sector in Tamil Nadu 

A state-level dairy workshop aiming to shed light on the challenges and opportunities in the dairy sector and its importance for livelihoods and sustainability was held at Kumaraguru Institutions on 17 September 2023. The workshop brought together key stakeholders to discuss the Tamil Nadu dairy landscape study. Dr. Habibar Rahman, Regional Representative for South Asia at the International Livestock Research Institute (LRI), Chief Guest of the event emphasized the pivotal role of the livestock sector in the nation and the evolving challenges it faces. He also outlined strategies to address these challenges. 

Hon’ble Minister for Milk & Dairy Development T Mano Thangaraj, accentuated the interconnectedness between agriculture, education, and business. He underscored the contributions of agriculture, dairy, and the livestock sector to the state and national economy. Dr. Thannamal Ravichandran, Program Manager (Research) at Kumaraguru Institutions, shared insights from her research on livestock, milk production and livestock fodder in Tamil Nadu. She highlighted the transformative changes in the livestock sector over the past decades.  

Mahatma remembered on International Day of Peace  

Observing the International Day of Peace on 21 September 2023, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, Podanur organized a seminar “Gandhian Thoughts on World Peace” at Kumarguru Institutions. 

Dr Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Kumaraguru Institutions said Mahatma will be more relevant as days pass. Every Indian should be proud to have given the world a man of his stature. We remember him on International Day of Peace. He asked students to get to know about Mahatma Gandhi who is the pride of our nation.  

Thiru T Kannan, Founder of Payilagam – Learning Centre gave a perspective on how Gandhi and Gandhian thoughts remain alive globally and the impact of his advocacy of peace. Gandhi was not just a leader of Indian Independence, but he is among a very few leaders who can be attributed to world peace. He had a global view which is still relevant. Mahatma learned from Leo Tolstoy, the Russian writer, John Ruskin, English writer and philosopher and Henry David Thoreau, American Philosopher who were leading intellectuals of the 19th century. He inherited the tradition of peace from them when the world was struggling out of war, slavery, and feudalism.  

Indian Air Force officers from 5 BRD Sulur discuss their problem statements with KC.IRI Team 

Senior Indian Air Force officers from Air Force Station, Sulur visited Kumaraguru Institutions and discussed their problem statements to find indigenous solutions to repair and overhaul of many of their fleet electrical, electronics, radio, and other components on 22 September 2023. Air commodore Vishnu Gaur, Air Officer Commanding, 5 BRD Sulur lauded KCT’s initiatives and active participation in various activities of 5BRD, with special emphasis on faculty from KCT integrating with defence for understanding, resolving, and finding solutions to several problem statements. 

Rear Admiral V M Doss, Director (Defence Program) KCIRI, highlighted Kumaraguru Institutions’ initiatives and active participation of KCT students/faculty in various defence expos. All these initiatives are systematically planned and executed for the creation of a vibrant defence eco system in and around Coimbatore to motivate MSMEs to participate in defence manufacturing. He also mentioned that as per industry survey carried out by KCT Business School students, more than 80% of MSMEs prefer to undertake defence manufacturing provided they are guided, and hand hold properly. KCIRI was asked to take initiatives to bring several industry partners together and find long lasting solutions to their problems and drive our country’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharath”.  

KCTBasketball Team Becomes Champion Of Anna University Zone XI Tournament

KCT Basketball team won 54-48 against the team from the KG College of Arts and Science in the final match to emerge winner of the Anna University Zone XI Basketball Tournament on 23 September 2023. A total 10 colleges from across Coimbatore took part in the tournament held at Sri Sai Ranganathan
Engineering college, Coimbatore.

It was a tough match as KG college team gave a tough fight and they were trailing by only a few points. However, KCT team emerged winners at the end and clinched the title for the second year in a row. KCT team stands qualified for the inter zone tournament. According to Assistant Physical Director M Saraboji, last year one student from the KCT was part of the Anna University for the national level inter university tournament. This year, we are expecting at least 2 to 3 to make it to the university team.

KCT Alumni Make Monetary Contributions for Student Scholarship & Social Impact Activities 

Alumni from the 11th batch of KCT 1994-1998 contributed Rs 5 lakhs towards student scholarships and social impact activities as part of their Silver Jubilee Celebrations recently. Over 150 Alumni from the 11th batch of the KCT had come over from across the world for their Silver Jubilee Celebrations in July this year. While the alumni were on the campus for celebrations, they didn’t stop with just celebrations but decided to give back to their alma mater and the society. 

A part of the monetary contribution was given to students of KCT as scholarship. KCT students were asked to show their willingness to avail themselves of the scholarship and following a few rounds of scrutiny, a group of students were shortlisted for the scholarship. As part of the social impact activity, the Alumni donated 2 new steel cupboards for the library of the Panchayat Union Middle School at Udayampalyam. Besides this, renovation activities were also carried out in the toilet complex of the school.
