 KCT Students win First Prize in the National-level Intelligent Innovators Hackathon (i2h) 

A team of students named “No Limits”, from Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) won first prize and cash reward of Rs 50,000 for their project on enhanced energy storage system in the National-level Intelligent Innovators Hackathon (i2h) hosted by Sri Eshwar College of Engineering on the 8th and 9th September 2023. 

The team comprising third-year students from the Department of EIE, N Dheepauk, D Kanagagiri, M Veeramani and S Praveen, won the hackathon after five rounds of rigorous evaluation for their project “Enhanced Hydro-Assisted potential Energy Storage and Generation System”. The team presented their innovative concept with an engaging animated video. In the final round of evaluation, the team presented a fully functional working model, demonstrating the practicality of their innovation.  

The evaluators recognize team’s potential and give ideas to develop prototype. The future development of this project will be scaling up our prototype to a practical, real-world application. The team is continuing the process of learning, exploring, and adapting to the evolving landscape of innovation and technology and working on scaling up their prototype to a practical, real-world application.

Kumaraguru students Felicitated by Sports Minister 

Three students from Kumaraguru Institutions who had won medals in the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 were felicitated by the State Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin with cash prize in an event in Chennai on 04 September 2023.  

S Gowtham, Final year B. Com student from Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS), had represented the Tamil Nadu basketball team in the Khelo India Youth Games 2023, held from January 30, 2023, to February 4, 2023, in Madhya Pradesh. While he had won a silver medal in the games, he was rewarded cash prize of Rs 75,000 by the minister. Similarly, D J Domin Rido and D J Domin Risho, 2nd year students from KCT had won bronze medal in Fencing in the Khelo India Youth Games held at Madhya Pradesh from 6th to 10th February 2023. They both received Rs 50,000 cash prize from the sports minister.  

KIA welcomes its 10th Batch during KIA Swagatham 2023 

Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture (KIA) hosted welcomed its 10th Batch of students as part of KIA Swagatham 2023 – the induction programme to welcome freshers for the academic year 2023- 2027. A total of 180 students joined KIA who came along with their parents for Swagatham. They were guided towards knowing the institution, its facilities, and specializations. The felicitation ceremony was led by Shri M. Balasubramaniam, Correspondent, Kumaraguru Institutions and Managing Director – Sakthi Sugars Limited, who extended a warm welcome to the students and their parents.  

The presidential address was delivered by Shri K. Prakash, Correspondent, KIA who emphasized the institute’s commitment to nurture the aspirations of every student. His words of encouragement and wisdom inspired students, underlining the institute’s dedication to fostering holistic development.  Shri A. Balasubramanian, Executive Officer acknowledged the interest shown by parents in KIA for their wards. Dr. B J Pandian, Principal, KIA enlightened the gathering with the scope of pursuing B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture programme. To provide further guidance, Mr. C. Saravanan, GM & Administrative Officer, elucidated the various career opportunities available in the realm of agriculture.  

Students Make Eco-friendly Ganesha Idols in the Campus  

A team of students from Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) got hands-on training on making eco-friendly Ganesha idols out of Bagasse in the campus on 14th September 2023. The training programme was organised by Natural Fibre Research Center of KCT with the Department of Fashion Technology and KCT Business School.  

Dr G Ramakrishnan, Professor, Department of Fashion Technology said that Bagasse – the dry pulpy fibrous material that remains after extracting sugarcane juice was used as the primary raw material, which was procured from the ICAR Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore. 

Ms R Niveda, CEO of Bliss Naturals was the resource person for the workshop who taught the students on grinding the bagasse into fine particles and mixing it with starch material by diluting it with water to make a fine paste. This paste is then poured on different Ganesha moulds to make Ganesha idols. Dr Ramakrishnan said that they are planning to approach the district administration with the eco-friendly Ganesha idols which can be an alternative to idols made of plaster of paris.  

KC.IRI attends TN Defence and Technology Expo at Chennai 

Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation (KC.IRI) participated in the Tamil Nadu Defence & Technology Expo held at Chennai at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam from 3rd to 5th September 2023. The expo was aimed at empowering MSMEs & Academia by providing opportunities to demonstrate products and services to the potential customers and investors.  

KC.IRI showcased its technical capabilities and indigenisation products under development in the Expo. Award winning products of KCT students were also displayed in the stall. Interactive B2B meetings with various defence industries by KCIRI team provided networking as well as collaboration opportunities for the defence initiatives of KCIRI. Many technical seminars relevant to the defence industries were conducted by the organizers which were of immense benefit to the KCIRI team. 

Dignitaries and Technical leaders from defence services, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSUs) and defence industries visited the KCIRI stall and expressed keen interest on the product and services displayed. More than 200 private industries and defence organizations actively participated and displayed their products & services.
