KCTian becomes the first girl student in the planet to bag IEEE AESS Engineering Scholarship   

Ayushi Gautam, a final year student from Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) Coimbatore has become the first girl student ever in the globe to receive 2023 IEEE AESS Engineering Scholarship of $10,000. IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society is a society of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) that focuses on the advancement of integrated electronic systems and large-scale integrated interoperable systems. 

Being the first Indian student to receive the international recognition, she received this commendation for her excellent academic and research accomplishments. She is the first Asian to secure this award. The scholarship is given to one student in the undergraduate level and one graduate student. Ayushi has bagged this scholarship in the undergraduate level. Under this scholarship she will get a single annual award of $10,000 USD and a certificate.  

Fascinated by Space and Space technology, Ayushi joined Students for Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS KCT), which is a student-based organization working on Space projects at KCT. Participation in International Space Challenge (ISC), Sounding Rocketry and Space Science Challenge (SSC) where she played major roles in developing electronics and Radio Frequency (RF) systems helped to improve her technical abilities. 

She was selected for Indian Academy of Sciences Summer Fellowship 2022 which gave her the opportunity to flourish with the astounding concepts of Antennas and its applications. 

The 2nd Edition of Coimbatore Defence Conclave (CDC) 2023 held at Kumaraguru Institutions  

The 2nd edition of Coimbatore Defence Conclave (CDC) 2023 at Kumaraguru Institutions was yet another milestone in enabling the MSMEs in the region to know the critical defence equipment requirement through experts from the defence. Veteran defence strategists, senior officers from the Armed forces and key officials from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) came together to discuss the way ahead for the MSMEs in the Indian Defence equipment manufacturing.  

Delivering the inaugural address, Air Marshal M Matheswaran, Former Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (IDF) Ministry of Defence asked industries to be curious about the available opportunities and equip themselves to manufacture critical defence equipment. He stressed on the need for Public Sector to shed their infrastructure and share it to private sector for defence manufacturing.  

Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, Kumaraguru Institutions presided over the event and said the economy needs our industries to produce defence equipment because a huge percent of our revenue is spent on defence equipment as we buy it from around the world. He said, a generational effect or effort is what will build this defence ecosystem in Coimbatore like how two generations back the entrepreneurial ecosystem for engineering and textile was built. 

Asian Champions Trophy brought to Kumaraguru as part of Pass the Ball tour  

The campaign crew of the Asian Champions Trophy arrived at Kumaraguru Institutions and the Trophy was unveiled at The Orb as part of the campaign for the championship on 26 July 2023. The Asian Hockey Championship is starting from 3rd August 2023 at Chennai. This prestigious event will feature India, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, and China who will compete for the coveted title. This championship being hosted in Tamil Nadu, a state wide campaign is being run where the Trophy is being taken to all the districts in the state as part of the PasstheBall tour.  

The trophy was brough to The Orb at the Kumaraguru Institutions where it was formally unveiled by Dr D Saravanan, Principal, Kumaraguru Institutions and Dr Vijila Kennedy, Principal, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) amidst a gathering of college students and staff. The principals also passed the hockey ball with the hockey stick among themselves as part of the campaign followed by the player. After the event, the campaign team departed with the trophy for their next destination. On 1st August 2023, the trophy will be handed over to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M K Stalin.  

Kumaraguru Institutions signs MoU with WIL  

Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) Coimbatore signed an MoU with Wheels India Limited (WIL) – a renowned steel wheel manufacturing company for collaboration on multiple fronts on 26 July 2023.  

The event happened at the Kumaraguru campus where the representatives from WIL exchanged the documents in the presence of Dr D Saravanan, Principal- KCT and G Muniasamy, Executive Director, Kumaraguru Institutions.  

This academia – industry collaboration will progressively impact students from Aeronautical, Automobile, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering departments.  

Student projects and faculty research projects in collaboration with industry is seen as one of the major outcomes of the MoU besides internship and placement opportunities with industry. The faculty members from KCT will be able to take up industrial consultancy work and senior business leaders from WIL will be involved in updating and designing the KCT curriculum based on the contemporary industry requirements.  

The employees of WIL will be given preference in admissions in Mechanical Sciences programmes like Mechanical, Aeronautical and Automobile departments. Similarly, WIL will be an integral part of the campus placements process. KCT will take up upskilling projects courses on welding and machining for WIL staff.  

Close to 100 students from various post graduate programmes bid adieu to KCT  

Close to 100 students from the final year of various post graduate programmes of Kumaraguru College of Technology were offered a memorable farewell on 26 July 2023 in the campus.  

Mentor and consultant Mr A Vivek whois a KCT Alumnus from the 1999 – 2003 batch was the chief guest for the farewell event. He asked students to reskill themselves whenever there is opportunity by giving his own example. He was into Human Resource and Branding support, but chose to strengthen his marketing skills two years back. Being able to head the marketing department and show results he went on to hone his sales skills and bring more revenue to the organisation he was associated with. 

“At a point in your career, you will have to make a choice between technical and managerial path. Be very clear about where is your strength and which is your area of interest,” he said.  

Addressing the students, Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, Kumaraguru Institutions said that we are in an era where India is looked as good opportunity by the rest of the world. Overseas companies that have invested in China are also looking for investments in India as an alternative. There will be a lot of opportunities in the next 20 years. He asked them to explore new domains, innovate and excel in their career. V Janarthanan and P Janani were selected as the best outgoing students of the batch based on their academic and non-academic performances were given certificates.
