Team from Aeromodelling Club of KCT awarded best in the innovative design category at SAE ADDC 2023

“Team Hermes” from the Aeromodelling Club of Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) secured 1st place in the Best Innovative Design category in SAE INDIA’s Autonomous Drone Development Challenge 2023. The challenge, spanning from November 2022 to August 2023, witnessed 42 teams from across India competing to build a sub-2 Kg drone capable of autonomously delivering payloads.

Team Hermes, which included students from diverse technical backgrounds, impressed the judges with their innovative drone design. Crafted from lightweight carbon fiber composite, the drone weighed only 300g. Despite its mere 1.6 Kg empty weight, it could carry up to 500g payload, fly for 15 minutes, and communicate within a 10km range.

During the final flight test, Team Hermes showcased exceptional precision by dropping the payload accurately within 1 minute 40 seconds. Their remarkable achievement was acknowledged by SAEISS Chairman Dr. R Rajendran, SAEISS Aerospace Development Forum Chairman Dr. S Senthil Kumar and other industry experts.

KCLASite Snenthra Babu qualifies for National level Billiards Tournament Representing Tamil Nadu

Snenthra Babu, student of first year BBA from Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) is representing Tamil Nadu in the National level Billiards Championship to be held at the end of this year. Snenthra bagged 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal in the Billiards and Snooker State level ranking Championship held in Chennai from 8th to 15th August 2023.

She is now part of the 8-member Tamil Nadu team selected to compete in the national level ranking tournament. Internationally ranked 2nd seed in Open Women Category, Snenthra has three international medals to her kitty including a gold.

Practising cue games for the last 5 years, the 19-year-old is one of the emerging players who has consistently improved her performance over the years. Snenthra was attracted towards the cue game at a very early age after seeing the colorful balls on the billiards table. Seeing her interest, her father introduced her to the game and there was no looking back after that, says Snenthra.

KSI students win laurels at Tamilnadu Startup Thiruvizha

Students from Kumaraguru School of Innovation (KSI) were recognised for their innovative ideas at தீர்க்கத்தான், a groundbreaking event at Tamil Nadu Startup Thiruvizha 2023. தீர்க்கத்தான் was an initiative by Forge Innovation & Ventures which was the Industrial Innovation and Growth partner for Startup Thiruvizha’23 organised by StartupTN.

The guiding philosophy, ‘தீர்க்கத்தான் – தீர்வை எடு, தீர்த்து விடு,’ underlines the commitment to redefining education by nurturing a new generation of Innovation Engineers, propelling Tamil Nadu’s economy towards a trillion-dollar milestone. தீர்க்கத்தான் was meticulously designed by Forge to ignite technological innovation in youth, revolutionizing Tamil Nadu’s innovation landscape. Out of a total 205 student teams across 14 diverse districts, 26 teams were selected for the final accolades by the esteemed entrepreneurs who formed the jury.

Swetha K from the Department of Computer Science Engineering was recognised with Gold Idea award with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Besides this, a total 7 teams from KSI were shortlisted for the competition out of which, three teams were recognised with “Silver Idea with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 for each team.

Students were helped to nurture their ideas across domains like Bolstering Military & security capabilities, Driving Mobility’s Next Gen Tech, Reengineering machines & materials, Industrial cyber-physical system, fostering sustainable energy & Resources Innovations, and Engineering Climate Resilience solutions. The event had the footfall of over 20000 people predominantly startups and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Students from Kumaraguru School of Innovation (KSI) were recognised for their innovative ideas at தீர்க்கத்தான், a groundbreaking event at Tamilnadu Startup Thiruvizha 2023.

StartupTN – an initiative from the Tamil Nadu government is building an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state. Tamil Nadu Startup Thiruvizha 2023 was the first annual celebration of startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship by StartupTN on August 19th and 20th, 2023 in Coimbatore. The event had the footfall of over 20000 people predominantly startups and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Organized by Forge, தீர்க்கத்தான் was one among the significant happenings of the event which was meticulously designed to ignite technological innovation in youth, revolutionizing Tamil Nadu’s innovation landscape.

KCLAS hosts intercollegiate competition focusing on Solid Waste Management, Renewable Energy and Digital Era

Over 300 students from across 18 colleges in Coimbatore and neighbouring districts displayed their performing skills in an Intercollegiate Competition organized by Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore (CVC) a Voluntary Consumer Organization at Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) on 19-20 August 2023. 

‘Green Tech Fusion’ being the theme of the competition, students performed street play/skit/mime on one of the 3 topics, Solid Waste Management, Renewable Energy and Digital Era. The First Prize, with a cash award of Rs. 10,000 was bagged by the team from Nehru College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore. The Second Prize, with a cash award of Rs. 5000 was received by AVP College of Arts & Science, Tiruppur and the Third place with a cash award of Rs. 3,000 went to Jansons Institute of Technology.

Mr. G. Chandeesh – Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore North, was the chief guest at the Prize Distribution. He emphasized the need for youth to keep innovating and look at new possibilities to improve their careers.  

A realistic virtual trading simulation carried for students by Kumaraguru FLICK Club

A risk-free mock stock market event was conducted for the students of KCT, KCLAS and KCT Business school, which created a challenging environment for the participants as they witnessed a real time paper trading platform. The Department association of Economics of KCLAS in association with FLICK club came up with an engaging mini-intraday trading on 1st August 2023.

Nearly 11 teams, each with 2 -3 members participated in this extravagant stock quest. Intraday trading is buying and selling stocks within a day, but the highlight of this paper trading event was that the buying and selling was done within an hour.

A sum of Rs 10,000 was given to each team for trading. If the first trading went in loss, the deducted amount was carried forwarded for the next trading. The team with the highest profit ratio was declared winner at the end. Here the trades are not held overnight or through weekend periods.
