From leisurely games on the streets to national-level aspirations, twins Agshatha and Yogithaa exemplify the journey of passion and perseverance in the world of badminton.
Agshatha and Yogithaa, badminton twins from Coimbatore, are spiking their way towards national glory. Their journey began in 7th grade, where casual games on the street ignited a passion that now consumes 5 hours of their daily routine. Recognizing their potential, their coach, Varun Anand, stepped in, providing immense support and guidance, steering them onto the right track and propelling them into greater stages.
Upon entering Kumaraguru, they found inspiration in their seniors, spurring them to intensify their training regimen. Supported by their college coaches, who provided invaluable guidance and training opportunities, the twins honed their skills further. The coaches’ unwavering belief in their potential fuelled their determination to excel.
Today, they proudly hold the 4th rank in the state and are poised for national representation. In the past they placed second in Tamil Nadu’s Ranking Badminton Tournament in the U-19 doubles category. They have also represented the State and the College in the South zone tournament held at Belgavi, Karnataka.
The training of the shuttlers routine is a testament to their dedication. Every morning, from 5 to 7:00 AM, they engage in fitness exercises and rigorous practice sessions. After their college commitments, they return to the court from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for further training, totalling five hours of practice daily. As competitions approach, they adjust their regimen, focusing solely on running and fitness two weeks prior, foregoing weightlifting.
“Our parents have been our pillars of strength throughout this journey,” says Agshatha. “Their unwavering support and belief in our abilities have propelled us forward, even during the toughest times,” adds Yogithaa. Their eyes sparkle with ambition when they talk about the future. “Our ultimate goal is to represent India at Nationals and bring glory to our state,” Yogithaa declares.
For aspiring athletes, the twins offer a message of perseverance. “It’s not always easy,” Agshatha says. “There will be setbacks, but hard work and dedication pay off. Find a sport you love, surround yourself with positive people, and never give up on your dreams.”
Their journey epitomizes the spirit of perseverance and determination, with each challenge met head-on and conquered.
