Sarabhai Kalam Theater – A State-of-the-Art Conference and Event Facility Inaugurated at Kumaraguru

Sarabhai Kalam Theater (SKT) – a 12000 sq. ft. smart purpose-built conference and event facility with 450 seating capacity was inaugurated by Dr. Y.S. Rajan, Former Scientific Secretary, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma (Retd) Senior Member of Gaganyaan Advisory Panel at the Kumaraguru Campus on 10 October 2023. Equipped with advanced audio-visual technology, meticulously designed acoustics, distinctive lighting features, and an impressive LED wall, this spacious and versatile canvas provides seamless connectivity and shall be an ideal venue for an academic symposium, cutting-edge tech summit, or theatrical show.

Dr. Rajan urged the management to elevate the facility to become a global hub for knowledge dissemination by playing host to people and experts from various industries to create new projects and have discussion to develop advanced technology for agriculture. Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma asked students to resolve the conflict in their minds on the definition of success. He asked if they are seeking just financial wealth or seeking professional fulfilment. The Chairman of Kumaraguru Institutions Dr. B K Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, the Vice Chairman, Dr. M Manickam, the Correspondent Shri M Balasubramaniam and the Joint Correspondent Shri Shankar Vanavarayar were also present during the inauguration.

Kumaraguru Host International Conference on Tamil Computing

An International Conference on Tamil Computing was organised by the International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil (INFITT) in collaboration with Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) at Kumaraguru campus, on 13 and 14 October 2023. INFITT (உலகத் தமிழ் தகவல் தொழில் நுட்ப மன்றம், உத்தமம்) is a global non-profit organization aimed at promoting Tamil Computing in diverse areas so that Tamil is usable on all routine and high-end applications very much like English and to develop Tamil centric Information Technology.

A series of invited talks and a forum for young researchers to present their work were organised during the international conference. Young Researchers Forum was an excellent opportunity for young researchers to present their research work to a global audience. The Theme of the Conference was “Enabling smartness in Tamil Computing using AI technology”. Young researchers shared their works among fellow students from computer and Engineering Faculty Members on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Tamil computing. Academics and Scholars from various segment presented their works during the conference.

Swagatham 2023: Students Who Joined KCT Under Lateral Entry Scheme, Welcomed

A total of 182 students have joined various undergraduate programmes of Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) under the Later Entry Scheme this year on 11 October 2023. They were welcomed along with their parents during Swagatham 2023 – a formal ceremony to induct students into the Kumaraguru Ecosystem. Interestingly there has been an increase in the number of girls students this year. Dr. D Saravanan, Principal, Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) informed that usually, 5-7 percent of the total students joining under lateral entry scheme are girl students, but this year 10 percent of the girl students have joined which shows that the institution is progressing in the right direction.

Speaking about the Founder Arutchelvar Dr. N Mahalingam, Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, Kumaraguru Institutions said Kumaraguru was built with a powerful vision by a visionary who was greatly inspired by Gandhian ideals. He said students must have an ambition. “Unless you have a vision and mission, the journey will not be interesting. You must be aspirational,” he told students. Dr. Raghuveer VR, Director, Kumaraguru School of Innovation, told that usually it takes time for the lateral entry students to blend with the regular students. He asked the students not to take too much time as the connect is very important and engineering is all about higher order thinking.

Yi Coimbatore Chapter and KCLAS conducts Thalir Innovation Fest Boot Camp 2023

Young Indians (Yi), in association with Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS), conducted a Boot Camp on Design Thinking and Theatre Workshop for school students from Yi-Coimbatore Chapter on 7th October 2023. The event witnessed the participation of over 315 students from 15 schools in Coimbatore. The Boot Camp was held across three different venues to provide personalized attention to the students. The Design Thinking workshop was held in two different venues, where experts Mr. Neil Tushar Kikani, Director, Ragok Medicare Pvt. Ltd and Mr. Shrikumaravelu, Managing Partner, Tekmak Industrials, provided valuable insights to the students.

The event was inaugurated with a welcome note by Mrs. Srinidhi, Educator, Paper Kite and Mr. Shivashankar Thirumurthi, Chartered Accountant and Dr. Priyadharshini, Convenor, Thalir Innovation Fest 2023. A theatre workshop was conducted in a separate venue, by the students of the KI Drama Troupe and KCLAS. The workshop was activity-based and aimed to teach the students the basics of theatre. The event concluded with a brainstorming session on the selection of problem statements by the schools for the upcoming regional-level competition. Ms. Nivetha, Co-Convenor, Thalir Innovation Fest 2023, and Ms. Anitha Pradhan, Faculty Support, KCLAS, proposed the vote of Thanks.

Face-to-Face FDP on Universal Human Values (UHV) held at Kumaraguru Institutions

Kumaraguru Institutions hosted AICTE approved Face-to-Face Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Universal Human Values (UHV) – a programme designed to create an environment that fosters holistic, values-based education (HVBE), and aims to play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of capable, morally responsible students between 5-7 October 2023. Over 40 participants from across college in Coimbatore and KCT faculty members attended the three-day sessions in the campus. This FDP gave an opportunity to discover and understand the innate values of human being in every aspect of life. The overall purpose of this FDP was to enable the participants to live a fulfilling life, in harmony with oneself and with family, society and nature.

As per the guidelines from AITCE and NEP 2020, the teachers who attended this event will now be able to help the student to see the need for developing a holistic perspective of life and sensitize the student about the scope of life – individual, family, society, and existence. At end of the programme, the AICTE resource persons, engaged participants over a strengthening self-reflection session, that aimed at developing confidence level and commitment to become the mentors of Universal Human Values-I (UHV-I) during Student Induction Programme at educational institutions.
