KCLASite to represent India in the Asian Open Championship 2023 to be held in Thailand 

S A Pranav from Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) has been selected to the Indian ice-skating team in the upcoming Asian Open Championship 2023. Pranav is one among the three athletes selected in the Junior – A category for the 17 – 19 age group to represent India in the selection trials that happened a fortnight back in New Delhi.  

The Asian Open Championship will be held in Thailand from August 31st to September 2nd, 2023. Having three international medals to his kitty which include a gold and two bronze, global events aren’t new to Pranav as he is set to take part in his fifth international tournament. Representing India has always been a special moment, he says. Pranav started as a roller skater at the age of five and later was introduced to ice skating by his coach. While Pranav is confident of a medal in the championship, he says he is aware of the competitive nature of the championship which will have athletes from 7 countries, and he is prepared to give his best. 

Kumaraguru creates Awareness on Nuclear Science among Gen-Next, Hosts Anu Awareness Programme 2023

Students from schools and colleges across Coimbatore visited Kumaraguru Institutions to understand the progress happened in the country in the area of Nuclear Science. Kumaraguru campus played host to Anu Awareness Programme 2023 initiated by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India and Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam on 07-08 August 2023.

Around 1000 students from across many schools witnessed the exhibitions showcasing nuclear reactor models and the application of ionizing radiation in medical, engineering, and agricultural fields. Close to 400 students participated in the quiz competitions, thought-provoking art competitions, creative writing competitions and conceptual orations.

The objective of the event was to let the younger generation know about the progress in Nuclear Science and technology in the country. The event was also aimed at creating interest among students in science subjects and helping them explore the opportunities in the Department of atomic energy.

There are a lot of myths surrounding nuclear energy and the objective of such events was to dispel such myths through awareness programme across the country, said Jalaja Madan Mohan, Head, Technical Coordination and Public Awareness, IGCAR. Experts thanked the Kumaraguru Institutions for playing host to such a cause.

KCT team wins multiple recognition at the National level Kart Design & Racing Event

Two teams from KCT- Garage representing Kumaraguru Institutions won many awards in the 2nd Season of National level Kart Design & Racing Event organised by Academy of Indigenous Motor Sports at Kari Motors Speedway, Coimbatore from 7th August 2023 – 9th August 2023.

Team E zeall Racing won 9 awards in the event which includes Overall Runners besides winning a total prize amount of Rs 33,000.

The team also won Best Business Award, Autocross Award, Skidpad Award, Go Green Winner, Lightweight Award, Best Timekeeper Award, Surprise Event Award and Team Spirit Award. The team had emerged runner-up last year in the first edition of National level Kart Design & Racing and had won 6 awards.

Team Zeall Racing (IC Category), another team from KCT won Best Aesthetics Award in the event. Both the teams will participate in the Formula Kart Design Challenge (FKDC) organised by Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers (FMAE).

A society is on the path of peace and harmony if it ensures safety and respect for women. Kumaraguru Drama Troupe took up this message to the Kumaraguru students by performing a skit in the college campus on 08 August 2023. The performance from 8 students shed light on the challenges face by women in attaining basic rights in the society, and the collective responsibility of fostering an environment where safety and respect are non-negotiable cornerstones.

The 15-minute-long skit conveyed a powerful message that upholding the safety of women is prerequisite and bestowing the respect, she deserves is pivotal for a progressing society. The story revolved around a determined single mother who faces insult from her relatives for prioritizing her daughter’s education.

She enrolls her daughter in school, where the girl studies diligently and secures the top position. The girl however gets assaulted by strangers after the mother gets hospitalized over illness. In response to these events, two groups of protestors emerged: one advocating for respect for women, and the other emphasizing the need for women’s safety. The girl breaks her silence and convey a powerful message that women require both respect and safety in society.

Children from Gondi tribal community oriented on the importance of personal hygiene by KCLAS students

Children and adolescents from the Gondi tribal community were sensitised on the importance of hygiene to lead a healthy life by students from Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS). Gondi or Gond are the tribal people belonging to central India who are spread over many states including a few parts of Tamil Nadu. A settlement of about 200 odd families lives near Sundarapuram in Coimbatore.

Student from the Department of Social Work studied the Gondi tribes for 5 days with the help of Compass Act foundation and Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board. Observing that the people need orientation on hygienic practises, the students decided to orient the children and adolescents in the hamlet on the importance of personal hygiene. Second year students of Social Work, G Ponmaragaatham, Mohammed Rinas and G S Sivasankaran sensitised the children on the importance of washing hands, bathing and maintaining personal hygiene. 50 odd children attended the session and they responded positively at the end of the programme. The students are planning to take up orientation on health among others in the hamlet and follow them in the coming weeks to monitor the progress.
