Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) Coimbatore signed 2 MoUs with industrial partners
The Fashion Technology Department of Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) Coimbatore has signed MoUs with industrial partners, Master Linens Inc. (Karur) & United MEP Projects and Engineering Services (UMPESL, formerly Voltas Textile Machinery Division). Mr. Sethu, Managing Director of Master Linens Inc. and Dr. D. Saravanan, Principal-KCT exchanged the MoU 17th March 2023 and the event was presided over by Mr. A. Pavendhan, Assoc. Dean-Textile Cluster-KCT. It was decided to work towards structuring a protosem for textile and fashion technology students with the objective of developing a new product. Master Linens Inc. has already absorbed students from Fashion Technology who are undergoing internship in Industrial Engineering and Merchandising as a part of the recruitment. Department of Fashion Technology has signed another MoU with UMPESL on 23rd March 2023. The partners have jointly established the Knit Design Lab – an industry sponsored lab which is equipped with Shimaseiki® Design System (SDS) Apex 4. Training to faculty members (Train the Trainers) has already been initiated and it is ongoing. Under this MoU, the institution is determined to provide exposure to the students of Textile and Fashion domains on Techniques of Digital Printing, Needle Punching, Garment Cutting and Flat Knitting.
Citizen Consumer Club of KCLAS awarded best in the district by Collector
Citizen Consumer Club of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) secured first place in the district for taking up various initiatives towards creating public awareness on consumer rights. District Collector Mr Kranti Kumara Pati gave the award to the members of CCC KCLAS at an event organized at the collector office as part of world consumer rights day celebrations. Consumer clubs are created in colleges with the purpose of injecting knowledge and skills related to consumer rights among college students and to impart knowledge on product standards, product quality and about markets. It will also make students aware of laws enacted for protection of consumers and enforcement authorities concerned. The purpose of the club is to empower with knowledge and awareness in consumer related issues prepares the student to face the world with confidence backed by knowledge, create awareness about consumer laws and equip the students with life skills enabling them to lead better lives. The Citizen Consumer Club has been organizing awareness events sensitizing students on preventing wastage of food and reducing usage of plastics. Students have also composed a song (Villupattu) on fair digital finance in Tamil to educate rural people on the merits and demerits of the technology used for banking transection.
A 50-member Indian Naval Band comprising talented musicians and dedicated sailors lifted the spirits with an enthralling musical performance in front of a diverse audience at Kumaraguru Campus on Wednesday. The band has been entertaining audience and boosting morale for decades. Their performances are a testament to the power of music to bring people together. Under the baton of Lieutenant Commander Aldrin D Alexander, the Deputy Conductor of this ensemble, the Band could relate closely to its audience and made every effort to incorporate different forms and textures of music embodying India’s abiding characteristic of ‘Unity in Diversity’. Assisted by M Anthony Raj, Master Chief Petty Officer, Musician II, the band attempted some of the popular film songs for the first time which effectively connected them to the audience. Most significant among them was the Oscar winning number ‘Naatu Naatu’, a song from popular Tamil film Petta, starring actor Rajnikanth besides popular songs like Enjoy Enjaami and Malipoo. The Indian Naval band fulfils a pivotal role in a variety of official events, including Change of Command ceremonies, Commissioning / Decommissioning ceremonies, Passing-Out Parades and other notable functions. Beyond these formal occasions they also entertain the public at parades, concerts and other community events, enhancing the Navy’s public image, promoting goodwill and also act as peacetime musical ambassadors. The band has performed at esteemed educational institutions, including St Xavier’s College Mumbai, and IIT Gandhi Nagar, in addition to various schools. Furthermore, the band graces the stage at numerous renowned outdoor venues, including malls, public gardens, and iconic landmarks such as Gateway of India, Asiatic Society, India Gate, for public outreach. The origin of this magnificent Indian Naval ensemble dates back to 1945, when it was formed with a mere handful of naval musicians. Over the years, it has come a long way since those relatively humble beginnings, acquiring national and global renown as it regaled audiences across the country, and around the globe, especially during the overseas deployments of Indian Naval warships. “Versatility is the hallmark of the Indian Naval Band whether arranged as a military marching band or as a symphonic wind ensemble. Its wide-ranging repertoire includes stirring martial music, arrangements of symphonies, overtures, concertos, Indian classical music, and a host of other forms of contemporary genres, including Pop and Folk music,” said Lieutenant Commander Aldrin.
Safetython
‘Team Stars’ – the students’ team of Anna University regional campus, Coimbatore won the Safetython 2023 – a road safety hackathon on Wednesday. They emerged winners among the 5 teams that made it to the final round of the Safetython 2023. Team Stars had coined the adaptive traffic signal system based on the road traffic density to make the traffic movement hassle free. The event was organized by Uyir – a road safety initiative in Coimbatore along with the city police. The objective of Safetython was to collaborate ideas from college students to strengthen road safety system. Safetython is an effort to encourage students towards solving existing road safety problems and how to prevent accidents through innovative ideas. Mr G Manuneethi, District Highway Engineer (Road Safety) said everyone knows the rules but many don’t follow due to many reasons. “Having a healthy life is the greatest gift. We have to preserve it, but in most cases, people only realize the importance of health after becoming victim of accidents,” he said. City Police Commissioner V Balakrishnan said road accidents are claiming more lives than the crime in the city. Fatal accident turns lives upside down for families, but non-fatal accidents too leave lasting impact on the family if the injured in the sole bread winner of the family. Safetython is an initiative to rope in students to get innovative solutions to the traffic issues and bring down accidents, he said.
