Kumaraguru’s Team Sea Sakthi brings Laurels to India
Echoing India’s voice in the global arena for a sustainable clean energy source to mitigate climate change, an ambitious and unconventional line-up of 14 engineering students called Team Sea Sakthi from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, has positioned the nation on the path of e-mobility in the marine engineering category. Monaco, the capital of advanced yachting has been hosting the annual Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) since 2004 and Team Sea Sakthi, the first ever Indian team to be qualified for the Challenge went on steadfast to position India in the sixth place in the overall ranking and won the 2000 Euros worth Communication Prize in the debut entry. The 9th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge powered by Yacht Club de Monaco was held between 04 and 09 July 2022. There were 38 teams from 27 universities across 21 countries participating in the competition under three categories namely Solar Class, Energy Class and Open Sea Class. Team Sea Sakthi, comprising 14 undergraduate engineering students from mechanical, electronics and computer clusters with a lot of passion, grit and determination went on to build a Zero Emission Energy Boat called Yali, named after the mythical creature synonymous with valor and strength.
Yali weighing 310 kg champions alternate propulsion systems using clean sources of energy runs on a lithium-ion battery and a solar panel. Following the challenging technical inspection; the evacuation test which requires the pilot to evacuate the boat in less than five seconds and swim away from the boat and the self-draining test to ensure that water drains out from the cockpit, Team Sea Sakthi, in their maiden effort became the second team to be officially qualified to participate in the Boat Challenge among the 16 other teams competing in the Energy Class Race on the 6th of July.
On the 07th of July, His Excellency Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador of India for France and Monaco visited and congratulated the team for representing India for the first time at MEBC. Later in the day, the team presented the technical features of the boat in terms of design, propulsion, endurance and manoeuvrability at the TedTalk. On the 8th of July, the Indian team started off well by positioning in 3rd place initially at the Endurance Race and later following the Slalom Race and Championship Race on 9th July, Team Sea Sakthi won the 6th position in the overall ranking in addition to winning the Communication Prize worth 2000 Euros for being the most supported team among the 38 participating teams.
Team Sea Sakthi, the builders of Yali, is swept up in a wave of euphoria after creating vibes at Monaco and is determined to position themselves among the top three teams in the 10th edition of MEBC scheduled in 2023
The Changemakers with Best Environmental Practices
Kumaraguru College of Technology has won an award under the category “The Changemakers with Best Environmental Practices” at The ZEE Edufuture Excellence Award 2022 Felicitated on June 25th, 2022 at Gurugram. Mr. Saravanan. C, Program Manager, Microcosm received the Award for KCT. Around 200 Colleges from all over the country applied, and 60 Colleges received the award under different categories. The application was submitted with data collected from the institution (HR, Admissions, IPR Cell, Research, Microcosm, etc.). Based on the survey form submitted, KCT won the award under “The Changemakers with best Environmental Practices”. The Award ceremony had a conclave with many speakers from all premier organizations. Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe - Chairman of AICTE; Shri Manish Sisodia - Deputy Chief Minister (NCR); CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi, Sharad Vivek Sagar, CEO, Dexterity Global, Social Entrepreneur & Expert at KBC; Bani Paintal Dhawan, Head of Education, India and South Asia Google Cloud India Pvt. Ltd; Divya Arora, National Director, AFS Intercultural Program, India; Rohit Anand, Head HR, CoEs are some of the esteemed speakers at the event.
ARAI Technovuus Mobility Hackathon

A team of six members from the Department of Automobile Engineering, KCT, has made it into the Grand Finale of the ARAI Technovuus Mobility Hackathon 2022. Out of 290 teams across the nation who competed under 10 categories, KCT team is shortlisted as top 3 and will take part as the finalist of this hackathon during 15 to 17 July 2022 held at the Headquarters of Automotive Research Association of India, Pune, for an opportunity to grab a Cash Prize of 1 lakh INR. The team members are Dharineesh V M, Abinandhan Palanisamy K, Karan M, Hari Vignesh S and Kavinesh S under the mentorship of Mr. Kishore R and Mr. Naveen Kumar C, Department of Automobile Engineering, KCT. The team submitted an idea “Development of Reinforced Hybrid Fiber (Banana & Kenaf) for Car Interior Trims” – to develop a recyclable textile composite that uses non-toxic, reusable resins for use in vehicle body panels and upholstery. The research works ensured that the material was highly durable and able to withstand years of hard use on a vehicle in a variety of environments, climates and use cases (especially Indian).

Mech Alumni Reunion

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Office of Alumni Relations, KCT, organized an alumni meetup Mech Alumni Reunion on 09 July 2022 for the batch of 1998-2002 at Kumaraguru Campus. A group of 17 alumni visited and shared their reminiscence memory of the department and the campus. They are currently working in different parts of the world and came here for a reunion and made the event more successful.
Robert Bosch – KCT Interface
The Department of Languages and Communication, KCT, and Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions had a meet up on 06 July 2022 in the Research Centre of the Department of Languages and Communication, KCT Campus. The interaction between the teams commenced with a presentation about KCT and the department by Dr.B.Arokia Lawrence Vijay. The Bosch team expressed their interest in collaborating with the department for the curriculum plan, development and execution of two courses – Accent Neutralization and Global English & Business Writing Essentials. The first phase of the project includes discussion on curriculum requirements and course design which is planned to be held at Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions, Bangalore during the month of August 2022. Followed by discussions about the collaboration, the team was taken to meet the Prinicpal, Dr.D.Saravanan, who shared his views and suggestions about the project and congratulated us on this new initiative and venture.
