Launch of the First Batch of Data Engineering Course
Students of Batch-8 PGDDE (Post Graduate Diploma in Design Engineering), Cameron Programme, visited industries on 26 and 27 May 2022 as a part of their Industrial Visit activities. Aurora Institute & Inspection Services, a Coimbatore based firm, which is involved in Non-Destructive Tests was visited by the students. They had the practical exposure of understanding the Liquid Penetrant Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic particles testing and Radiographic Testing – Film & Digital during the visit. Industrial Components Co-Forging Division, Coimbatore, ICC Forge was also visited which is involved in the manufacturing of steel forgings. Students understood the Open die forging process, closed die forging process and Hardness testing. The visits helped them in getting practical exposure to concepts and fundamentals taught in the classroom session.
Sakthi Excellence Academy (SEA) in association with Cameron (CMI), a Schlumberger (SLB) company launched the First Batch of Data Engineering Course for 23 employees of CMI-SLB on 06 June 2022. It is an 8-Week Upskilling Course spread over 320 hours. Week-1 will be conducted in KCT campus and weeks 2 to 8 will be conducted in CMI-SLB premises. Experts in Data Engineering modules will handle the sessions. Hands-on experience will be emphasized during the course. After successful completion of the course, the participants will be awarded certificates. Earlier during the day, Dr. Satish Kumar Sagadevan, Associate Director, SEA, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the course. Mr. Nagarajan, Program Manager, SEA, spoke about the course proceedings. SEA team members were present during the launch.
SDG Conversation Series
Kumaraguru Microcosm conducted an event titled SDG Conversation Series on the World Environmental Day on 05 June 2022. The theme of the event was Only One Earth. SDG Campus Conversation Series brought together passionate students who would like to converse, share knowledge, and learn from various experts working towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Developmental Goals to meet the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Kumaraguru Microcosm conducted a Tree Plantation event on World Environmental Day on 05 June 2022. The theme of the event was Only One Earth. Student volunteers spent the morning planting saplings in the reserved site of a residential area in Coimbatore. This was done in collaboration with the residential association which has assured continuous maintenance, protection and monitoring of the planted saplings. They have joined hands to help the world become a better place and soil their hands to increase the green cover of the earth by planting a sapling.
Second National Workshop on In Vitro Cell Culture Screening of Natural Products
The Department of Biotechnology conducted the Second National Workshop on In Vitro Cell Culture Screening of Natural Products from 27 to 29 May 2022. From ancient medicines to modern-day targeted therapies, natural products and bioactive compounds have significantly furthered one of mankind’s greatest achievements. These natural substances have been suggested to display significant medicinal and therapeutic values. Over the last two decades, there has been a resurgence of interest in the investigation of natural materials as a source of potential new chemotherapeutic agents. These resources are investigated using extraction and isolation techniques mainly based on chromatography, and bioassay-directed fractionation of extracts. The workshop focused on imparting hands-on skills in isolating the active bio ingredient and testing the efficacy and toxicity of natural products in in-vitro cell lines which may motivate the students and young researchers to carry out collaborative research work in this fascinating field of cell culture research.
Under the banner of YUGAM’22, Agam Forum of Kumaraguru conducted an event titled THULIR’22 from 27 May to 05 June 2022. This was an opportunity to improve the physical & mental health status of the children at Universal Peace Foundation. The secret to getting ahead is getting started. The inauguration of Thulir started with the valuable guidelines shared by Dr.V.Selvan followed by interesting facts on foods delivered by Ms.Anusha and a detailed explanation of overall THULIR’22 by Ms.Yashwandra G. The primary objective of the event was to take yoga and its importance to the youth of the nation, especially to the underprivileged children. The mental and physical health of the children has been improved by providing them with a set of yogic practices. The club members were able to exercise the privilege of being a mother to the world, which gave them the possibility to experience the oneness which is the basis of the yogic tradition and by making donations, the social responsibility of the forum members was fulfilled.
Nature Club of Kumaraguru conducted the eco-contest named Only One Earth on World Environment Day. This online quiz competition was held on 04 June 2022. Instagram was used as an online platform. Stories were posted on the club’s Instagram page regularly. The participants were asked to respond to the questions posted regarding the environment and its adverse effects. Over 30 participants took part enthusiastically in this event, and there was a great response from the participants. The main objective of the event was to create an awareness on safeguarding the environment.
Band Agratha Club of Kumaraguru conducted a Guitar Workshop on 01 & 02 June 2022 at Swami Vivekananda Seminar Hall. It made the participants to grasp the essentials needed to begin playing acoustic or electric guitar. The two-day session comprised Basic notes recognized in the instrument, Fret language, Guitar Scales – Major and Minor, Guitar string change and tuning lesson and Chords & strumming patterns. The outcome of the event was that the participants learnt an easy approach of playing quickly, through a combination of exploring the instrument, performance technique, and basic music theory.
