AICTE LILAVATI AWARD 2021

The Centre for Weavers, KCT, won the second Runner Up of AICTE LILAVATI AWARD 2021 under the category Technology for Women. The team members include Dr.G.Ramakrishnan, Professor and Head, Department of Fashion Technology, Dr.B.Poongodi, Assistant Professor, KCT Business School, Dr.C.Velmurugan, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sanjayan J, II Year MBA, KCT Business School, Coordinator, Centre for Weavers and Sathya M, III Year B.Tech (FT), KCT. The initiatives by Centre for Weavers largely benefits women weavers:
- Project Jamakkalam – enhancing the livelihood of Jamakkalam weavers
- Development of Low-weight Modified Jacquard for handloom weavers
- NSDC PMKVY-RPL Training for Jacquard Handloom Weavers
- Kovai Kora Logo, GI Tag – recognition of regional artisans and products
- Handloom Day Celebrations
The team was felicitated by Hon’ble Central Minister Smt.Smriti Irani in Delhi. The event was live streamed in the Vivekananda Seminar Hall, KCT.
Three Days Training on Motor Mechanics
The Department of Automobile Engineering, KCT, in association with Tamil Nadu Forest Academy, Coimbatore, organized a training on Motor Mechanics for Forest Range Officer Trainees 2021-23 (VIII) Batch from 09 to 11 March 2022. This three-day training was inaugurated by Dr.Saravanan D, Principal, KCT. Sessions on IC Engine and Chassis, Vehicle Maintenance, IC Engine & Vehicle Maintenance (Hands-on training), Automotive Electrical, Tyre Technology, Automotive Electrical & Product Learning Centre Demo, Transmission and Brakes, Team Suspension and Steering and Fuels and Lubricants were conducted. On the third day, the team visited Garage to gain exposure to live laboratory experience. Finally, they were felicitated by Dr.C.Vasantharaj, Director, KCIRI.

Her Autograph
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, KCT, conducted an event titled Her Autograph on 08 March 2022. It is a special women’s day video featuring the emotions of girl students concerning various feminine aspects. This video featured 22 girls answering 22 different questions. The questions include the cultural issues that form the background of the gender pay gap, professional inspiration from other women, and much more. The event brought about the women’s perspective on society, people and problems around her.
Club Events
Ideathon for Women Safety and Security
Pudhupaavai Club of Kumaraguru conducted an Ideathon for Women Safety and Security on 09 March 2022. The objective of the event was to make the participants observe, explain and provide a solution for the problem statements in SIHH related to women’s safety and security. The best teams were selected for SIHH under the guidance of iQube. The problem statements given for ideation from SIHH was minimizing the effect of negative implications (natural calamities, plague, pandemics like COVID19 and other similar factors) on the tourism industry, automated feedback system to know the exact location of nonfunctional streetlights in rural areas of Central India. Also, at the request of Anna University another problem statement titled Media news on Sexual Harassment was added to the context. Around 50 participants participated in the event and the winners were announced based on their performances.
Femme’s Space
Pudhupaavai Club of Kumaraguru conducted a talk series titled Femme’s Space on 11 & 12 March 2022. The objective of the event was to create awareness about menstrual health, hygiene and hygiene products through a series of talks by professionals. On Day 1, a session on women’s health and hygiene was conducted by Dr.Nancy Kurian, the wellness architect and founder and managing director of Golden Threads, Coimbatore. On Day 2, a session on women hygiene products was conducted by Ms.Niveda Ravikumar, Founder of Bliss Natural Pads, who is an alumnus of KCT. The outcome of the event was that the participants were able to know more about personal hygiene.
Signature Keynote
In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the LEED Club of Kumaraguru organized an event titled Signature Keynote on 08 March 2022. The speaker of the day was Mrs.Katrin Yuan, Head of Business Excellence, One Livit, Swiss Life Group, Zurich, Switzerland. She also oversees eight departmental areas and works alongside the CEO as one of the top management team’s six members. The theme for the keynote session was Why Women Matter & How Women Succeed. It was a very useful and insightful session on the special day. The speaker shared her experiences with the audience and answered the queries as well. Her perceptions on woman’s power served to be an eye-opener for the participants.
