MoU with BIM Academy
Sakthi Excellence Academy (SEA) and Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BIM Academy (Building Information and Modelling and Management), United Kingdom, and Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK on 07 January 2022. The MoU was signed by Shri.Shankar Vanavarayar, President, Kumaraguru Institutions, and Dr.Graham Kelly, Director, BIM Academy, and both spoke about the association and the opportunities to explore. BIM is used in construction, project management, facility management, maintenance of buildings as well as in asset management systems. Based on the pact, SEA-KCT will train the in-house faculty and offer BIM training programs to graduates, practitioners and professionals and equip them with the knowledge of BIM. Dr.Joseph V Thanikal, Director, KCT-SEA and Prof.Bimal Kumar, Northumbria University addressed the gathering. Mr.Andrew Johnson, Project Manager of BIM Academy, Principals of KCT and KCLAS (Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science), Executive Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer, Heads of Departments and Faculty, KCT, participated in the event.
MoU with Next Leap Aeronautics
The Department of Aeronautical Engineering, KCT, signed an MoU with Next Leap Aeronautics on 05 January 2022. Next Leap Aeronautics is a start-up working on electric aircraft design and development challenging the aerospace technologies and is also working with our Indian defence services and various global aerospace companies on advanced aerospace technologies. KCT is planning to have potential collaborations in the areas of establishing a Centre of Excellence in Electric Aircraft Technology, student internships, faculty exchange programs, research collaborations in the areas of micro gas turbine design and development.
MoU with ITAMMA
The Department of Textile Technology, KCT, and the Indian Textile Accessories and Machinery Manufacture Association signed an MoU on 05 January 2022 at Swami Vivekananda Seminar Hall, KCT. Dr.V.Ramesh Babu, Head, Textile Technology, KCT, and Mr.Dhijen R. Mehta, President, Indian Textile Accessories and Machinery Manufacture Association, Mumbai, have agreed and signed the MOU to strengthen their bonds. Followed by that, a Special Address on “Government Schemes for Textile Industries” was given by Mr.N.D.Mhatre, General Director (Tech), ITAMMA; Dr.K.Selvaraju, Secretary-General, SIMA, gave an address on “Expectations from MHI” and Dr.K.L.Jeyaraj, Dep. General Manager, Colorjet, spoke on “Digital printing” and finally Dr.M.Saravanan, KCT, gave his views on “Academia Role in Industry Growth” during the event. Many industrial delegates and KCT faculty members were present for the event. The program has opened up new possibilities for joint project proposals with industry under MHI and student internships with ITAMMA association.
MoU with The Institute of Cost Accountants of India as CMA Satellite Centre
Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) signed an MoU with The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI), Coimbatore Chapter, on 05 January 2022. The agreement has enabled KCLAS to become a Satellite Centre for ICAI Coimbatore and offer foundation programs of ICAI for students who wish to pursue a career as a Cost and Management Accountant. KCLAS will offer coaching and training for ICAI programs to its students and will be open for interested students in and around Coimbatore district. The agreement was signed by Dr.Vijila Kennedy, Principal of KCLAS and CMA V.Mathanagopal, Chairman of ICAI, Coimbatore chapter. KCLAS advances professional career paths of students that include CMA, CA and ACCA through KCLAS Edge+ while they are pursuing UG programs.
Department Events
Placement Prep Talk Series’22
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, KCT, organized a webinar on Placement Prep Talk Series’22 on 17 January 2022 through Microsoft Teams to give tips and tricks to crack the Group Discussion round in placements. The speaker was Dharuneshwaran S, Final year, EEE. This second episode of the placement series brought deep insights about group discussion and the methods to be successful. The objective of the event was to guide the participants to clear various levels of placement interviews and to train them in group discussion.
Ancientography
The Department of Civil Engineering, KCT, conducted an event titled Ancientography from 13 to 16 January 2022. Ancientography was a photography contest where the participants were asked to share the photographs of ancient structures of the world taken by them. The event duration was three days. The pictures were to be submitted via Microsoft Forms and the best pictures were given prizes. The participants’ creativity and their view towards the ancient structures/monuments were taken into consideration while announcing the winners. There were about 20 entries and the best three were chosen as winners. The participants felt motivated and came forward to showcase their hidden photography skills through this event.
Meme Madness
The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, KCT, in collaboration with the Kural Club of Kumaraguru conducted an event titled Meme Madness on 12 January 2022 through Microsoft Teams. This event was completely a refreshing event where the students dived deep into their creativity lane and came up with some interesting and funny memes. This event was planned to bring freshers back on track for the line-up of upcoming events and the response from the participants was incredibly amazing. There were 30+ responses with an average of 2 memes per person.
EcoShutter
The Department of Biotechnology, KCT, conducted a photography-based contest EcoShutter on behalf of EnviroBio, the biotech sustainability week, on 12 January 2022. In this event, the participants were asked to share pictures/ photos of their acts of maintaining a sustainable environment like planting a sapling, picking up litter, etc. In this way, the students were driven to make creative and sustainably healthy choices to make this world more sustainable. The event was more like a wake-up call to the students reminding them about the importance of creating a sustainable ecosystem. Just like how the overall theme of EnviroBio is aimed at, Eco-shutter was an event where the students were encouraged to make every effort count to move towards a sustainable future.
Econnect
As a part of EnviroBio, The Department of Biotechnology, KCT, conducted a fun-filled awareness game titled Econnect on account of the biotech sustainability week on 11 January 2022 through Instagram. The participants were asked to connect the pictures and find the term that relates to environmental sustainability. The students took part in the event very enthusiastically and made it a success.
Demo Session on Strength of Materials
The Department of Civil Engineering, KCT, conducted a Demo Session on Strength of Materials on 10 January 2022. The session was handled by Mr.Hajaratgvali Shail, Faculty, ACE Engineering Academy. The session started with the general and basic topics on strength of materials. Then the guest speaker explained about the elongation of bars and stress-strain curve. He also upskilled and discussed the previous year’s GATE questions related to these topics. The outcome of the session was that the students got some clarity and in-depth thoughts on the GATE exam and its importance to get into reputed colleges and PSU’s (Public Sector Unit).
Skill Kit Workshop Series
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, KCT, conducted a session on Student Entrepreneurship on 07 January 2022 through Microsoft Teams. The speaker was Mr.Praveen Raj U.S, Co-Founder at Triz Al, who is also an alumnus of ECE, KCT. This session concentrated on the nuances of How to start a start-up. Entrepreneurship allows one to learn more than just the chosen field of study and creates an interdisciplinary environment to work and develop by taking calculative risks.
Pictionary
The Department of Civil Engineering, KCT, organized an event Pictionary – Identify the Picture on 03 January 2022 at C Block, KCT. This event was a team game wherein the relevant names of the pictures displayed were to be found by the participants. The more you focus on, the more fun you have. There was active participation from everyone and the event turned out to be a great success.
Master of Mask Design
The Department of Fashion Technology, KCT, and Pudhupaavai Club of Kumaraguru organized an event titled Master of Mask Design from 24 December 2021 through Google Forms. The aim of the event was to create a pattern on the mask and the theme was X-MAS. The rules included the different materials that can be used, and the mask can be dyed and coloured. The mask can be designed with patterns or illustrations. The mask can be of any size. It can be handstitched/machine stitched. There were many participants for the event who came up with innovative designs.
Club Events
Quizee Bee Quest
The RSP_IRSC_UYIR and Qubate Club of Kumaraguru conducted an online quiz event titled Quizee Bee Quest on 17 January 2022 to create awareness on road safety. This quiz event concentrated on road safety with 20 questions. It was conducted via Microsoft forms. There were around 25 participants for this event. The outcome of the event was that the participants were able to test their knowledge on road safety.
Roboquest
The Robotics and Automation Club of Kumaraguru College of Technology organized a quiz event titled Roboquest on 12 January 2022. This was an interesting quiz event that was conducted online exclusively for the freshers of KCT. To elaborate more on this and to keep the quest throughout the journey of Robotics and Automation, the RAC came up with a unique idea to show their interest or just to pull off their curiosity/ eagerness towards the robotic skills or knowledge related to robots. It was not only an event conducted but rather an interesting one where the younger minds explored and developed a good knowledge of robotics and automation. The event was conducted effectively in two rounds. The first round was in the Kahoot app and the second one was through Microsoft teams. The welcome address was given by event coordinators Mr.Asfaq Moideen and Ms.Giftlin Devapriya. The session was filled with the interaction between the participants and the event coordinators as well as with Mr.Prakash Ganesan, Vice President of RAC. In Round 1 – The quiz event was exclusively conducted for the freshers on the Kahoot app where the participants enthusiastically participated and 15 questions were given on the topic “Robotics and Automation,” and they were able to do well based on the knowledge, information, and the facts they had known and had within that duration. Followed by that, round-2 was conducted through MS teams using presentation and there were 10 questions to attend based on the theme “Automation” and the participants took part in it to showcase their interest in Robotic Automation. All the participants used their time efficiently and the flow of the event was continuous and relevant to the topic.
Walk-in-Week
The Kumaraguru Runners Club conducted a virtual event Walk-in-Week from 11 to 18 January 2022. The rules were clearly explained to the participants in the poster on the Instagram page. The participants were requested to record their walking steps through any fitness app and send their walking summary at the end of each day by tagging the Insta page. Forms were shared on the last day on the club’s Insta page to upload their week summary. Fifteen participants responded to this weekly challenge. This created excitement to monitor their fitness. This event made an impact among the freshers and will further encourage them to participate in any kind of event. The walk-in-week challenge was to increase the daily steps, tone the entire body and improve the general health and fitness of the participants in just a week. It was designed to help everyone move more every day to keep the body fit, active and toned.
Lake Restoration Program
Namadhu Pangu of Kumaraguru Institutions launched a lake restoration program at Chinnavedampatti lake along with Kulangal Padhukapu Amaipu on 02 January 2022. Lakes are an important feature of the earth’s landscape which are not only the source of precious water but also provide valuable habitats to plants and animals and enhance the aesthetic beauty of the landscape and extend many recreational opportunities to humankind. Due to various reasons and rapid urbanization, the lake near Chinnavedampatti is polluted. This effort will be carried out on a weekly basis, and with time and determination, the lake will be restored.
