Kumaraguru Institutions celebrate the Indian sovereignty on the 72nd Republic Day
Kumaraguru Institutions joined the nation in celebrating the 72nd Republic Day on 26 Jan 2021, the day on which the Constitution of India came into effect. While India showcased its defence prowess, rich culture and heritage along with technological advancements through parades and tableaus at the Rajpath in New Delhi, the campus celebrated the significance of the day with the unfurling of the National Flag at the Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan Foyers, followed by the Presidential Address by Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, President, Kumaraguru Institutions. During his address, Shri Vanavarayar emphasized on India’s role in the global Covid-19 vaccine roll out and the importance of vaccination against the virus. Further in the address, he mentioned the inspirational lessons that each one could draw from the 100+ Padma awardees from diverse fields ranging from art, medicine and spirituality to agriculture and social entrepreneurship. This was followed by the Principal’s Address by Dr.D.Saravanan, Principal, KCT and Dr. Vijila Kennedy, Principal, KCLAS. Ensuing the address, Squadron Leader Imthiaz Ahamed, alumnus of Batch 2009, EEE, joined virtually to share his experience in the Armed Forces. The members of Studio KCT, Aeromodelling Club and Garage paid tribute to the tricolour in their unique style followed by the demonstration of various accomplishments of the Kumaraguru NCC Cadets.
Agrigo
Kumaraguru Institutions launched AGRIGO, the Farm Advisory and Consulting services division of Sakthi Group at Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture, Nachimuthupuram, Erode on 30 January 2021. Agrigo encompasses prominent maestros in the field of agriculture and allied subjects to offer end-to-end assistance to farmers on their concerns in the sectors of agriculture and animal husbandry. During the inauguration, Mr.Saravanan, Administrative Officer of Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture welcomed the gathering. This was followed by a brief orientation on Agrigo by Dr.B.J.Pandian, Principal of Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture. The slider curtains was drawn and the cell was launched by Shri. Shankar Vanavarayar, President of Kumaraguru Institutions. This is one of their landmark initiatives for the welfare of the farming society. AGRIGO extends its support in the areas of Soil Fertility & Water Analysis, Information of seed and variety selection, Pest and Disease Diagnosis and Recommendation, Recent Technologies in Agriculture, Management Advisory and Veterinary Services. Later a representative from the farming community shared his thoughts on this project and expressed his gratitude for the initiatives taken by Kumaraguru Institutions on behalf of the farmer society. Then the Joint Director of Agriculture shared the scope and future of this noble initiative. The session ended with the vote of thanks given by Mr. Balasubramaniam, Executive Officer of Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture.
The Centre for Weavers
Kumaraguru Institutions marches forward to venture into yet another new project with the launch of Centre for Weavers, Bhavani at Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture (KIA), Nachimuthupuram, Erode District on 30 January 2021, the Martyrs Day, as a tribute to Mahatma and other veteran freedom fighters.
The multihued Jamakkalam, which is a blanket or carpet made from cotton, art silk, wool or jute yarn with woven crossbars, has thrived for more than two centuries due to its distinct style, affordability and sturdiness and has been recognized as a Geographical indication by the Government of India in 2005-06. In order to enhance productivity, offer design innovation through technological intervention along with skill upgradation and increase the market scope through collaborative business models,
The Centre for Weavers, Bhavani has been inaugurated by Shri Shankar Vanvarayar, President, Kumaraguru Institutions at KIA campus, located at the main artery of Jamakkalam production near Apakodal in Erode District. Diversifying Jamakkalam into different other deliverables such as Yogo mats, Bed Spreads, Wall Hangings, Handbags, Heavy Cloth big shopper bags, Table runners, Laptop Covers and myriad other products and using sustainable fibres like jute, kenaf, raw silk, organic cotton and natural dyes are being thought of at present by a vibrant team encompassing fabric, quality, design, innovation and marketing is striving to achieve innovation and diversification. This is an enormous move towards the revival of the indigenous handloom legacy.

MAKEATHON 2021
A MATLAB Hackathon titled “MAKEATHON 2021” was conducted by the Department of Mathematics, School of Foundational Sciences, KCT, on 30 to 31 Jan 2021. Takako Hashimoto, Vice President and Professor, Chiba University of Commerce, moderated the event. In this online event, young programmers and engineers were made to get in touch with one another for two days and develop new ideas in MATLAB coding. The connection between the digital and the real world triggered interesting new challenges during the event and it made the participants to build and construct innovative solutions with the web technology. This event served as the best platform to enhance the skill set of MATLAB coding among the participants.
Solutionathon
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, KCT, in association with Re’, KCT, conducted their valediction for Solutionathon on 27 Jan 2021 via MS Teams. Solutionathon is an initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, thus inculcating a culture of product innovation mindset and enhancing their problem-solving abilities. This serves as a good platform to bring out the brilliant minds together to showcase their talents and innovative ideas. All the teams had actively worked on their problem statements and have come up with interesting innovative ideas. There were 7 teams in total with 30+ participants, who worked for around 18 weeks and have completed 4 reviews during the tenure. This event made the participants to involve themselves in a project and made them to ideate a solution to some of the pressing problems in this technical world.
Mesh of Minds
A diversified event which was inclusive of both technical and fun elements titled “Mesh of Minds” was conducted by the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, KCT, on 28 Jan 2021 via MS Teams. There were 40+ participants for the event, and they were divided into six teams consisting approximately of six freshers and two mentors in the form of II year students. The breakout room sessions were organized for the teams to initiate interaction among the teammates and the mentors and to prepare themselves as a team to take part in the competition. Then, the live event took place which consisted of technical video questions related to resistor colour code, logic gates and technical audio questions. Following this, Technical Quiz competition was conducted which included technical questions and general knowledge questions in the Quizizz App. The winners and runners were selected on consolidating the live event score and the quiz score. The participants found the event to be very interesting and exuberant.
Webinar on Implementation of National Education Policy 2020
A webinar on Implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was organised by the Institution’s Innovation Council, KCT, in association with Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas (SSUN), Tamil Nadu Chapter, on 30 Jan 2021 via MS Teams. Dr.R.P.Tewari, Professor and Former Head, Department of Applied Mechanics, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, deliberated on the nuances of the National Education Policy 2020 framework to the participants. The webinar also covered the significant aspects like semester-wise allotment of credit system for B.E. / B.Tech Programs, various levels of each program, duration and so on. The session also insisted on the need for the technological universities to convert themselves into multidisciplinary universities and increasing the usage of technology in education sector. There were 100+ participants for the event and they found the webinar session to be very informative.
Sherlock’ – A Case Analyst

An online event titled “Sherlock’ – A Case Analyst” was conducted by KCT Business School on 27 Jan 2021 via MS Teams. This event provided insights on how to approach and write case study analysis with real-time problem. The students of I year MBA, KCT, were the participants for the event. They felt that the event was very interesting, and it provided valuable inputs regarding case study analysis. During the event, a real-time case study was shared to the participants and a discussion about the same was carried out in a structural way. A worksheet was also provided to the participants and they were instructed to solve the case from their perspective. This served to stimulate the logical thinking ability of the participants.
Webinar on Salt-Free Reactive Dyeing
A webinar on Salt-Free Reactive Dyeing was conducted by the Department of Textile Technology, KCT, on 22 Jan 2021 via Google Meet. Dr.Giri Dev V R, Professor and Head, Department of Textile Technology, Anna University, Chennai, explained the concepts to the participants. The recent trends in salt-free reactive dyeing were explained to the participants in detail during the session.
Why ECE? 2.0
An online event titled “Why ECE? 2.0” was conducted by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, KCT, on 27 Jan 2021 via MS Teams. The event aimed to explore and differentiate various domains of ECE. A number of domain-specific topics like Semiconductor and VLSI, Signal Processing, Communication System and Networks, and IOT and Embedded Systems were explained during the event to the participants. They felt that the event has created awareness about the importance of ECE and the opportunities available in various domains of the field.
Orientation Session on National Innovation and Startup Policy
An orientation session on National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP) was conducted by the Institution’s Innovation Council, KCT, on 29 Jan 2021 via Google Meet. Dr.K.Paramasivam, Head-Government Schemes and Projects and IPR Cell, NISP Coordinator, KCT, oriented the participants on the National Innovation and Startup Policy during the session.
Webinar on Emerging Trends in IOT
A webinar on Emerging Trends in IOT was organised by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, KCT, in association with The Institution of Engineers (India), Coimbatore Local Centre, on 30 Jan 2021 via Google Meet. Mr.B.Saravana Vikram, Senior Project Manager, Kaynes Technology (India) Private Limited, Mysore, was the guest speaker for the session. He explained the emerging trends in the field of internet of things to the participants in detail.
Cadence – FE and BE Tool Demo and Training
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, KCT, conducted an event titled “Cadence – FE and BE Tool Demo and Training” on 25 and 27 Jan 2021 in VLSI Lab, Department of ECE, KCT. The main objective of the event was to make the participants familiarise with the concepts of analog and digital IC design and to use the cadence tool efficiently for analog and digital IC design. Mr.Sagar, Application Engineer, Entuple Technologies, Bengaluru, explained the concepts and gave a live demonstration on the use of cadence tool to all the participants. A hands-on training was also provided to the participants on how to apply the concepts for analog and digital IC design. Topics like basic digital flow, Gate design, Layout design for digital circuits, Analog design flow, invertor design, Symbol creation, place and route, and Layout generation were covered during the session.
NPTEL Awareness and its Benefits
An online event titled “NPTEL Awareness and its Benefits” was conducted jointly by the Departments of Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, KCT, on 26 Jan 2021 via MS Teams. Mr.Raffik R, SPOC – NPTEL Local Chapter and Assistant Professor, Mechatronics Engineering, KCT, deliberated on how to transfer NPTEL credits to KCT credit attainment, benefits of doing NPTEL and other MOOC courses, and eligible NPTEL courses for credit transfer and certification. There were 40+ participants for the event.
