Swagatham 2020 – Freshers Induction Programme for first year B.E/B.Tech. students 

Swagatham 2020, Freshers Induction Programme for first year B.E/B.Tech. students was held at Kumaraguru College of Technology between 6:00 and 7:00 PM on Wednesday, 25 November 2020 on the virtual mode. The event was relayed live on YouTube from the Ramananda Adigalar Auditorium at the KCT campus.  

Swagatham 2020 began with the invocation to the almighty followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr.M.Ezhilarasi, Associate Dean and Head, School of Foundational Sciences. In the welcome note, Dr. Ezhilarasi spoke on the operation of School of Foundational Sciences that encompasses Department of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Science, Technology and Society, Computational Science, along with Department of Languages and Human Excellence.  She also spoke on the innovative teaching learning practices and assessment strategies carried out at KCT and highlighted on the significance of attending the 9 day virtual Boot Camp slated to happen from 26 Nov 2020 to 05 Dec 2020 as per the guidelines from AICTE.  Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Kumaraguru Institutions, presided over the programme and in his address mentioned that, every KCTian should uphold the motto of the institution – Character is Life, and that righteousness is the most important trait that every student should adhere to, in order to succeed in their academic pursuits. Ensuing this, Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, Kumaraguru Institutions, in his felicitation address elaborated on the plethora of opportunities in research, entrepreneurship and higher education at KCT that every student should hold on to their passion and put in the best of their efforts to realise their dreams. Dr.J.Srinivasan, Principal, KCT emphasized that the students have to maintain academic vigour as well as engage themselves in sports, clubs and forums to hone themselves to become holistic individuals. The student representatives from KCT shared their learning experience on KOED – Kumaraguru Online EDucation, the exclusive virtual learning platform developed at KCT. This was followed by the feedback shared by the Freshers of Batch 2020-24. After the students’ feedback, parent representatives also recorded their insights on opting KCT as the destination for their ward’s higher education. Close to 1100 first year students and their parents participated in the online Induction programme. The event concluded with Dr. Vijilesh, Head, Office of Student Affairs, proposing the vote of thanks. 

Guest Lecture on Database Normalization

A Guest Lecture on Database Normalization was organized by KCT Business School on 25 November 2020 for MBA students.  Mr. Senthilvel K, an experienced Dotnet Full Stack Developer, who has worked in various flavours of Microsoft Technologies explained the principles and concepts of Normalization as a key to reduce redundancy.  He reiterated on how a table is to be designed and also explained the interdependency between each and every table.  He also clearly explained on how the anomalies can be overcome and how robust approach can be achieved in database design.  The session extended further on explaining the five types of Normalization.

Webinar on Professional Approach in Final Year Project in Engineering Education

A webinar on Professional Approach in Final Year Project in Engineering Education was organised by the Department of Automobile Engineering, KCT, on 21 November 2020.  Mr.K.N.Balaji, Senior Automotive Advisor, Ex-Brakes India Ltd., Chennai, delivered the session.  The participants included the students, faculty members and external participants from academia and industry.  The session mainly focused on the various approaches for carrying out the final year projects so that it will help the students to be employable and industry ready.  The speaker covered almost all the areas of scope in the field of automotive engineering along with the requirements to cater the needs of the industry.  The session was interactive and served as an eye-opener for all the participants.

Guest Lecture on Basics of Buying and Merchandising

The Department of Textile Technology, KCT, in association with The Institution of Engineers (India), Coimbatore Local Centre, organised a Guest Lecture on “Basics of Buying and Merchandising” on 27 November 2020 via Google Meet.  Ms.Malarnilaa, AJIO Business, explained the concepts of understanding customer’s aspiration and needs, competition tracking and market analysis.  The lecture helped the participants to update their knowledge in nonwoven sector.

Webinar on Easy and Effective Strategy to Crack Competitive Exams with AIR

A webinar on Easy and Effective Strategy to Crack Competitive Exams with AIR was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, KCT, on 18 November 2020 via MS Teams.  Mr.V.Sathyamoorthy and Mr.R.Vivekanandan, GATE Educators, Unacademy & Co-Founders, Masters Academy, Coimbatore, gave a walk-through on how a 30-day free GATE coaching in Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude will be provided by Master’s Academy along with a free counselling on various competitive exams.  The participants found the session to be very useful and informative.

Webinar on Ethical Hacking

A webinar on Ethical Hacking was conducted by the Department of Computer Applications, KCT, on 28 November 2020 via MS Teams.  Mr.Jegadeesan Sekar, Senior Software Engineer – Mobile Application Developer (Android), United Overseas Bank, Singapore, explained the basic steps to be followed for cyber security.  He also spelled out the strategies of ethical hacking.  The participants were able to understand that the purpose of ethical hacking is to evaluate the security level of a software and to identify vulnerabilities in systems, networks or system infrastructure.  It includes finding and attempting to exploit any vulnerabilities to determine whether unauthorized access or other malicious activities are possible.  The participants found the webinar session to be interesting and useful.

PEACE Session on “From Engineer to Designer – My Career Journey”

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, KCT, organised a Guest Lecture titled “PEACE Session on ‘From Engineer to Designer – My Career Journey’” on 24 November 2020.  Mr.Gulshan Ramesh Chand, Senior UX Designer, Payroll at Zenefits, San Jose, California, shared his experience of being a designer.  He explained about how he has coordinated with cross functional teams such as product, design, quality and offshore teams to implement multi-functional prototypes to emulate end-to-end experiences during the session.  This helped the participants to gain knowledge about the roles and responsibilities of a designer and how to coordinate among various teams.

Workshop on Banking Transactions

A Four-Day Workshop on Banking Transactions was conducted by KCT Business School from 17 to 20 November 2020.  Mr.S.Lakshmanan and Mr.R.S.Mani provided practical insights on banking transactions to the participants.
