Kumaraguru Learning Enhancement and Assistance Program (K-LEAP)

Kumaraguru Learning Enhancement and Assistance Program (K-LEAP) was initiated on 02 October 2020 by KARE, as part of Anantha Jyothi Week – a tribute to the Father of our Nation and our esteemed Founder Arutchelvar Ayya. The program aims to assist and enhance school children’s learning process and to provide career guidance and necessary technical support. COVID pandemic has challenged every individual in multiple ways, but the road to recovery can be simple if we stand together by supporting each other. No better way to do it, than to support the children who are the future of our nation. Kumaraguru Institutions have come up with the way forward where the helping hands are extended to support and mentor the children of its administrative and technical-support staff members to begin with and later extend the same to the government school children. As a first step, volunteers were engaged in collecting data about the staff members having children studying in grade 6 and above, and the children were grouped with student and faculty mentors. Various activities like trust building, personal connection, case studies, academic review and support, English communication development, identifying their field of interest, career guidance and technical support has been planned to fulfil the purpose.

KCT Aircraft Design Contest 2020

On the occasion of 89th Birth Anniversary of Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, the Department of Aeronautical Engineering of KCT, Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation (KC.IRI) and Institution of Engineers (IEI) jointly organized the sixth edition of “KCT Aircraft Design Contest 2020” on 15 October 2020. The contest aimed to fulfil Dr.Kalam’s “Vision 2020 for Passenger Aircraft” which focused on satisfying the requirements of Indian Civil Aviation by creating indigenous designs. The event was conducted to enlighten the youth and give them a platform to dream the aspiring ventures. Students from various colleges of South India participated in the contest and showcased their ideas and talents. Totally 16 teams inclusive of two teams from KCT participated in the contest. Student teams from colleges like ACS, Bengaluru; BIT, Sathy; Bharath University, Chennai; Hindusthan University, Chennai; Hindusthan Institute of Technology, Coimbatore; Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology, Tanjavur; Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal; and Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai, presented their design during the review on 10 October 2020. The designs were evaluated by a panel of eminent experts which included Mr. R.V. Ramkumar, Scientist, DRDO, Bengaluru and Mr. Alwin Anthony, Co-Founder & CEO, Leap Aeronautics, Bengaluru. Team Pravaah from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, grabbed the first prize and Team Spacers from Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai, won the second prize. A Special Prize was given to Team Hermes from KCT in appreciation of their innovation and merit.
A Three-Day Online Lecture Series on “Insight into Space Communication”
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, KCT, organised a 3-day online Lecture Series on “Insight into Space Communication” from 08 to 10 October 2020 via Google Meet. The event aimed to enhance the technical competency of the participants in the field of Space Communication. The first day of the Lecture Series focused on the topic “Satellite Data Processing”. Mr.B.Gopala Krishna, Prof.Satish Dhawan Scientist, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad, explained the concepts of data processing in satellite communications. Ms.G.R.Nisha, Scientist / Engineer, SF, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO, Trivandrum, came up with the strategies behind the “Launch Vehicle Avionics Systems” on day two. A lecture titled “Living Antennas on Communication Satellites” was delivered on day three by Dr.H.Umma Habiba, Former Professor, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Chennai. The participants were able to explore the opportunities in Space Communication during the event.
Webinar Series on Infrastructure Development and Climate Change

The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) funded Webinar Series on “Infrastructure Development and Climate Change” was organized by the Department of Automobile Engineering, KCT, in association with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and KCT Business School from 12 to 14 October 2020. The event was organized to create an awareness on the amount of climate change caused by infrastructure development. Dr.S.Ginil Mon, Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Environmentalist, Nesamony Memorial Christian College, explained the impact of infrastructure developments on Climate Change on day one followed by Dr.A.Geethakarthi, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Kumaraguru College of Technology, deliberating on the topic “Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Sustainability – A Way Forward in Developing Nations” on day two of the webinar. Dr.K.Sathiya Bama, Associate Professor, Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, detailed about the carbon capture & sequestration strategies to be adopted on highway roads on the final day of the event. There were around 85+ participants from various domains for the event. All the webinar sessions were found to be very informative and useful.
Guest Lecture on Taxation in Personal Financial Planning

KCT Business School organised a Guest Lecture titled “Taxation in Personal Financial Planning” on 14 October 2020 for MBA students of Finance specialization for the Wealth Management course. Mr. Gowtham D, Authorised Person, Zerodha, Coimbatore, served to be the resource person and addressed the students on various heads of income for computation of tax, Exemptions and Deductions, TDS, Computation of tax for Dividend Income, Interest Income and Realized Capital Gains, and Securities Transactions Tax. The session was interactive as many questions related to FinTech were answered lucidly by the speaker.
MATLAB Hackathon

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, KCT, in association with IE(I) Coimbatore Local Centre conducted “MATLAB Hackathon” on 09 and 10 October 2020. The event was organised to help the students to explore the challenges and research opportunities available using MATLAB. Dr. Bharathi M, Professor and Mr. Arunkumar S, Assistant Professor, KCT, served to be the jury members and selected the winners. All the winners were awarded with cash prizes.
Workshop on Zoho Click Platform Integration
The Department of Computer Applications, KCT, organised an online workshop via MS Teams titled “Zoho Click Platform Integration” on 11 October 2020. Mr.G.Thiyagaraj, Developer, Zoho, Chennai, gave a hands-on experience about using various tools like Streams, Filters, Content Card, Chatlet, Taks, Extensions and Mini Project in Zoho. The workshop helped the participants to understand Zoho Click Platform Integration to do their project works.
Guest Lecture on Emerging Trends in Production Planning & Control (PPC) Practices in the Foundry Industry

An online Guest Lecture was organized by KCT Business School on the topic “Emerging Trends in Production Planning & Control (PPC) Practices in the Foundry Industry” on 15 October 2020 for the students of 2019-2021 Batch. Dr.V.S.Saravanan, General Manager–Technical, Indoshell Cast (P) Limited, Coimbatore, introduced the operations of Indoshell to the participants. He explained the importance of PPC and highlighted the concepts of Capacity Management, Production Planning, APQP, MRP and Aggregate Planning and how they are being followed at Indoshell. Then, he continued to give insights about process planning, routing, loading, scheduling, application of IOT for material tracking and Automation through Technology that is being followed and the challenges that are being faced in the day-to-day activities. Practical examples of the above concepts provided an in-depth learning to the students.
Google Analytics

As a part of the Digital Marketing Course, an online guest session on “Google Analytics” was organized on 15 October 2020 by KCT Business School. Mr.Sabarish Gangadharan, Marketing Manager, Senior Marketing Analyst, Ameex Technologies, and alumnus of KCT Business School interacted with the students during the session. The speaker educated the participants on how to open an account in Google Analytics and how to implement tracking code on the website to measure the website performance. He also demonstrated how to navigate the Google Analytics interface and reports and set up dashboards using live case studies. The forum also provided inputs on how to analyse and interpret the data provided in the Audience, Acquisition, and Behaviour reports. Around 90 students of MBA (Batch 2019–2021) participated and benefited from this program.
Aptitudes Stand a Chance

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, KCT, conducted an online aptitude test titled “Aptitudes Stand a Chance” for the students across all the engineering departments on 10 October 2020 via MS Forms. The registered participants were given 30 questions related to Numbers, Simplification, HCF, LCM, and Time, Speed & Distance, and were asked to solve the answers within the time frame of 45 minutes. Toppers were awarded with cash prizes. The event helped the students to evaluate themselves about their mathematical knowledge and to prepare for their placement interviews.
Workshop on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking
The Departments of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and Information Science and Engineering (ISE), KCT, conducted a workshop on “Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking” on 10 October 2020. Mr. Mr.Krishna Sharma, Founder & CEO, Cyberator Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad, explained the concepts during the session. There were around 40+ participants for the event.
Webinar on Career Options after Under Graduation
The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, KCT, organised a webinar on “Career Options after Under Graduation” via Google Meet on 10 October 2020. Mr. Jenovar X.H., T.I.M.E. Institute, Coimbatore, deliberated the session by highlighting the various career options available for the students after completing their undergraduate course. The webinar session helped the participants to know about their career opportunities and to prepare themselves to achieve the same.

Gandhian Words
On the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, a webinar titled “Gandhian Words” was organized on 02 October 2020 by the Book Readers’ Club of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science. Ms. Naufa Yayha, author of “The Unmarried Widow” and “Risen from her Ashes” addressed the participants on Gandhian thoughts. She also shared a review on the book “The Wit & Wisdom” written by Mahatma Gandhi. The expert discussed the importance and the need of Gandhi’s thoughts and philosophy that ranged from religion and theology, personal and social ethics, service, and international political affairs to the family, education, culture, Indian problems and Gandhi’s most original concept of Satyagraha. The event had around 45 enthusiastic participants.
Prathipalippu

Books and Beyond Club of KCT conducted an online event titled “Prathipalippu” on 02 October 2020 via Google Meet. The third episode of the discussion was carried out during the event. Mr. Nivethan A.M., Programme Lead, Centre for Leadership Empowerment and Development, KCT, moderated the discussion about the book “India After Gandhi” written by Ramachandra Guha. The excerpts from the book were circulated to the participants a day before the event, and the facts and opinions were discussed during the online meet. The event witnessed the alumni and the students of KCT airing their views on the topic, and the session turned to be very interesting and inspirational on the whole.
Q-Fiesta

The National Service Scheme (NSS) jointly with RRC and VBC of KCT conducted an online event titled “Q-Fiesta” on 15 October 2020 via Google Forms. The objective of the event was to develop a sense of selfless service among the students on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam. Questions related to NSS were given and the participants were asked to answer the same. There were around 60+ participants for the event, and Ms.Deepika and Ms.Venkateshwari of KCT were declared to be the winners.
Holistic

Agam Forum of KCT conducted a webinar titled “Holistic” on 16 October 2020 via Google Meet. The webinar dealt about the food and its importance. Mr.J.P.Magesh Kirubakaran explained the concepts and the relationship between food, air, water, space, fire and land. He also explained the concepts of pranavasuthram in relation to food. Aagaaram is the first state in which any organism is produced or developed. Uugaaram is the second state in which it operates and works, and Magaaram is the third state in which the body stops functioning. OJAS, the ultimate energy reserve of the body and mind, was also explained during the session. The session also dealt with the necessity of taking right food and the usefulness of the herbs. The participants found the session to be very interesting and informative.
