WHAT IS SMART ANTENNA TECHNOLOGY?
Smart antenna technology is the developing technology, including software defined ratio, cognitive radio, MMO and many others.

SMART ANTENNA AND INVENTION :
Smart antennas are arrays of antenna with smart processing algorithms used to identify spatial signal signature. The German inventor Karl F. Braun invented this antenna in 1905.

WORKING PRINCIPLE :
This antenna converts electrical currents into electromagnetic radiation in free space or vice versa.


WHAT MAKES THESE ANTENNAS SMART?
A simple antenna works in a simple RF environment. But smart antennas are the solutions required for number of users, interference and propagation complexity growth and also smart of their digital signal processing facilities.


TYPES OF SMART ANTENNA SYSTEM:

1.Switches Beam system:
It uses the Buffer Matrix Network for the beam forming procedure. Moreover, this smart antenna is passive, that is without amplifiers. Thus, preserves the dynamic range of system and also it does not cause any gain stability or other spectrum problems.
2.Adaptive array system :
The proposal system combines the idea of an adaptive in azimuth and a switched beam system in elevation direction. In order to achieve all advantage introduced by Adaptive system,it gives the cost at correct level.

DISADVANTAGE:
 Cost is more due to RF electronics and A/D converter.
 Size is large. We can reduce size by dual polarization.
 Gain depends on spread. If spread is small, diversity is small.

 A space time processor (smart antenna) is capable of forming transmit or receive beams towards mobile of interest.
