PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

Printed circuit board can be shortly called as PCB . Printed circuit boards are the foundational building block of modern devices. PCB is the electronic board that connects circuit components and provide mechanical support.

Types of PCB :
Based on base material PCB is classified into three types ,
• Single sided PCB
• Double sided PCB
• Multi-layer PCB
Parts of PCB :
Pads : Pads are the location where we will solder the components. Pads have both Inner and outer diameter.
Traces : Traces connect pads together. It is used for wiring the PCB.
Vias : Vias is the pods with holes that have been drilled in PCB. Vias are used to connect the traces of one layer of board to another layer.
Solder mask : Solder mask protect copper traces on outer layers from corrosion . Areas shouldn’t be soldered may be covered with polymer resist solder mask coating .
Components :
Components are the actual component to be connected in PCB.
Example : power supply , resistors, transistor, capacitors ,LEDs, etc…
Advantages of PCB :
• Easy to repair.
• Minimal concern on short circuits and wrong wiring.
• Only low volume is required, no need for wires.
• Highly reliable.
Disadvantages of PCB :
• Cannot be updated once it gets printed.
• Etching of circuit boards generate chemicals which are dangerous for the environment.
Conclusion :
Printed Circuit Boards are supposed to be made with deep consideration and must be carefully checked at every stage.
