Ofo bicycle-sharing @ KCT
Ofo, the world’s first dockless bicycle-sharing platform operated via mobile app, has entered India with its first signing at the KCT Campus, Coimbatore.
Under this initiative, ofo deployed 100+ bicycles for use across the campus. The bicycles will be available 24*7 and 7 days a week as a means of easy commute for the students. ofo’s bicycle-sharing system will provide significant flexibility for users to find and return bicycles as it does not require any docking stations.
On this bright and chill morning, the flag off of the ofo cycle sharing platform happened in the presence of the Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan and KCT’s Joint Correspondent, Shri Shankar Vanavarayar. 100 KCTians [WU1] participated in the event and rode the cycles for the first time at KCT.
Welcoming ofo to Coimbatore, the Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan said: “While we are starting this healthy and non-polluting concept on a small-scale for now, we have plans to replicate this model across the city, thus promoting a green mode of transportation in Coimbatore. Cycle-sharing complements our Smart City efforts well given its affordable and low carbon footprint.”
Rajarshi Sahai, Director of Public Policy & Communications, ofo said: “We are pleased to associate with the Kumaraguru College of Technology. ofo will provide the students, faculty and visitors a clean and healthy transportation option starting this January, making the campus truly green. Through this pilot, we wish to provide people with a taste of an ‘easy-to-use’ bicycle-sharing experience and educate them with various benefits associated with cycling. Unlike other such offerings, ofo frees its users from the hassles of picking a bicycle from a docking station and leave it at another.” He further added “We are glad to have received full cooperation and support from Coimbatore Corporation and Tamil Nadu Government in enabling our model of self-funded and dock-less bicycles in the city, at no cost to the exchequer”
This is one of KCT’s drive in promoting a green campus and a salubrious lifestyle.
