Originated as sports day, and as inter department sports, ‘Kalam’ was kick started in 2014. In 2016 it evolved to be the ‘KCT Sports league’. This year, it is relaunched as Kalam by taking strength from the evolution in the past years.
Kalam 2019 is a junction where all departments competed through various sports in 7 teams. Cheras, Cholas, Pandyas, Chanakyas, Pallavas, Mayuras, Guptas were the teams that sported with zeal and enthusiasm. The teams played various sports and the men competed in Badminton, Ball Badminton, Cricket, Football 5’s, Handball, Hockey, Kabhadi, Khokho, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Chess and Athletics and women in Athletics, Badminton, Ball Badminton, Basketball, Khokho, Table Tennis, Throw ball, Volleyball and Chess.
With the motto of bringing fresh sports enthusiasts of the college onto the ground, Kalam ’19 was a field of opportunities that took place from March 1, 2019 to March 7, 2019. Kalam ’19 was a conscious effort to encourage them to participate to bring out the sport in them.
Various Sport events took place in the past week and special events like KRAFT’s Cross Fitness, Kalam Run and Athletics continue to happen this week.
The flagship event of Kalam 19, the Kalam Run, happened on 06 March 2019. 100 meters, shuttle, volleyball, cricket, throw ball for staff members and events of fun and frolic for the children of staff members happened on 07 March 2019 at Kumaraguru campus.
The team Mayuras and Guptas were the overall winners and runners of Kalam 2019!
The All Rounder Award of the Year was given to J. Jothi of IV ECE, J. Lakshmi of IV CSE and Velmalaiathirajan & A R Karthik Arumugam of IV Civil.
With this, the men and women players were awarded under various categories such as Sports Excellence Award of the Year, Responsible Sportsman, Responsible Sportswoman, Learner to Achiever Award and Most Significant Team.
